Costa Mesa has always done things a little differently — it’s the part of Orange County where creativity, independence and a healthy suspicion of convention come standard. It’s no surprise the city has one of the county’s most active homeschool communities, from the Eastside to Mesa Verde.

Edu-K supports that community with what homeschooling needs most: real teaching. Qualified, experienced educators delivering one-to-one tutoring in your home or online, plus small group sessions at our Orange County learning center, and full-time schooling there or in your home — on a schedule that respects why you chose this path.

Teaching that fits Costa Mesa’s rhythm

Homeschool days here might include a morning at Fairview Park, an afternoon co-op, or a class at the OC Fair’s Centennial Farm. Education happens everywhere — and formal teaching slots into the gaps.

One-to-one tutoring. Personalised instruction in math, English, science and beyond, starting from an honest assessment of your child’s actual level. Support for struggling learners, structure for steady ones, stretch for the advanced.

Group tutoring. Small-group sessions where homeschoolers learn alongside other homeschoolers — structured teaching plus the peer energy that independent learners sometimes miss. Deliberately small, so every voice gets heard.

Full-time schooling. Our most complete program — and the core of what Edu-K does. Your child enrolls, free, in an accredited California online public school (which covers the curriculum, records and an accredited transcript), and Edu-K educators teach the school day — in small cohorts at our Orange County learning center, or in your home — mornings 8:30am–12:30pm. Monthly fees from $1,070 depending on days per week — see the full-time schooling page for details.

Summer & holiday camps. Academic camps through the breaks, mixing learning with projects and activities — open to homeschoolers and school kids alike.

Why Costa Mesa families choose Edu-K

Career educators, not gig tutors. Edu-K is led by Karuna Shah, a British-qualified teacher with more than 20 years of classroom and tutoring experience. Every program is professionally designed and overseen.

Respect for your approach. Structured homeschoolers, relaxed homeschoolers, eclectic mixers — we’ve worked with them all. We teach to your philosophy and your chosen curriculum, or design one for you if you’d rather hand that over.

Central and flexible. Costa Mesa sits at the heart of our Orange County service area, with families in neighboring Newport Beach, Irvine, Huntington Beach and Santa Ana. One-to-one sessions in your home across the city, or online anytime; group sessions at our learning center, and full-time schooling there or in your home.

No-nonsense pricing. Hourly rates, session by session. No contracts, no packages, no lock-ins.

Common questions from Costa Mesa homeschool families

We’re new to homeschooling and slightly overwhelmed. Where do we start?

With the free consultation. We’ll talk through your child’s age, your goals, and your current setup — then give you an honest picture of what support would actually help, and what you can confidently handle yourselves.

Can you work with our co-op?

Yes — we can run group sessions for existing homeschool co-ops and pods, bringing structured teaching to a group that’s already formed. Get in touch to discuss your group’s size and needs.

Do you teach arts and creative subjects, or just academics?

Our core teaching is math, English, science and the academic backbone — the subjects homeschool parents most often want professional help with. For everything else, we’ll happily help you build a balanced week around our sessions.

Where do sessions take place?

One-to-one tutoring happens in your home or online — whichever suits your week. Group sessions run at our Orange County learning center, and full-time schooling can be taught there or in your home. We’ll map the right setup for your family in your free consultation.
